WHO IS JONATHAN BARNETT?
In 1984, Jonathan Barnett, collaborated with Tom Tjaarda (designer of the iconic De Tomaso Pantera) at his studio in Turin, Italy, where they were involved in designing various prototypes and show cars for different manufacturers. Noteworthy projects included City Car Prototype Proposals and a Future FWD show car for PPG, showcasing cutting-edge canopy glass technology and painting products for the Turin Automobile Show during their tenure at Tom’s firm, Dimensione Design (DD).
Drawing from this enriching experience alongside Tjaarda and armed with an Industrial Design Degree, coupled with a brief stint at ILM in San Rafael, California, Jon secured a position in the International Design Studio of Chrysler Automotive in Highland Park, Michigan. This period coincided with Lee Iacocca's leadership at Chrysler, fulfilling a lifelong dream for Jon.
In the dynamic environment of Chrysler's studio in 1985 and 1986, Jon found himself contributing to the development of innovative concepts for six distinct models, including iconic models such as the Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Jalpa (Portofino), Mitsubishi Starion, and Dodge Stealth, among others. Their creative input spanned from clay modeling to conceptualizing designs, leaving a mark on the automotive landscape during his time in Detroit.
Following this pivotal experience, in 1987, Jon joined Amerisport in Indiana, where his design expertise was instrumental in refining numerous aftermarket parts while assisting in the production of the final De Tomaso Panteras ever manufactured. Finally, in 1995, Jon ended up moving to Seattle and founding JQB Design, focusing on Yacht designs.
